Sealcoating Clean-Up

As summer winds down, the demand for sealcoating increases as the window is closing temperature-wise. The ideal weather condition is around 70 degrees in the morning with increased temps in the afternoon and no rain predicted for 24 hours. Temperatures above 95 degrees are too hot and interferes with the bonding process of the sealcoat.

Sealcoating is the primary way to prolong the life of an asphalt surface.  It acts as a protective film and protects it from elements such as air, water, chemical spills and excessive UV rays, thus minimizing the risk of developing cracks and holes.

You’ll see sealcoating on asphalt surfaces such as parking lots, driveways, bike paths, walking paths, golf course pathways and playground areas. The results make surfaces look nice and clean, but the process is anything but easy.

Even for professionals, sealcoating can be a messy undertaking whether using a refined coal tar-based or asphalt emulsion-based material.

After the application, comes the equally messy business of cleaning the equipment including brushes, brush holders, spray wands, spray hoses and squeegees.

Additionally, overspray on clean cement or a garage door should be removed.

QuestSpecialty’s TOUGH GUY Super Concentrated Degrease & Tar Remover is ideal for small clean-up jobs after sealcoating.  It sprays on with a jelled formulation that won’t run, allowing it to fully penetrate the sealcoat to emulsify it for removal.  It is also effective on asphalt, bitumen and asphalt base cements.

Plus, it has a pleasant citrus fragrance and no acids, alkalis, chlorinated or fluorinated solvents. It makes a messy job a bit more pleasant!
